Usually with servers and all I'm gung ho about updating firmware as it fixes problems. But really never mucked too much with switch firmware. We just got a SG200-18 new from Dell as they sell Cisco stuff. It came with 1.0.0.19 firmware version. But I see the latest is 1.1.1.8 is out. Looking at the release notes I didn't see too much you get and it seemed there's a fair amount of potential things that it might break. So wondering if getting the firmware for this switch up to date a no brainer for switches just like its for servers.

Hello,
Thank you for posting. In general we recommend using the latest firmware. Firmware releases fix known issues with the devices and normally no firmware is released unless something needs to be addressed. Please read the release notes for the latest firmware to see if upgrading is a good idea for you.

I looked at the release notes for instance for 1.1.0.73 and there is nothing in there about fixes at all. The only headings were Known Issues When Upgrading and Limitations and Restrictions. So were there fixes but just nothing put in the release notes? For 1.1.1.8 there was a section however called Major Changes and Defects Corrected. This had 4 bullet items of which to me were relatively minor things.
It just looks like tehre are alot more known issues and limitations and restrictons versus major changes and defects. Or are maybe minor fixes not listed in the release notes?

I ended up updating the firmware. Looks like a few screens changed. Anyways. Thanks again.

Thanks for the update. I don't think that any of the old versions for these switches had any major bugs, there were just some features that didn't make it into the initial firmware. Please let us know if you see any issues with the new version.
