Hello Sir,

My name is Rozana and i am an engineer from Cisco SMB support.

Usually in most scenarios, you don't need to configure anything additional, just to plug one of the ports of the SG200 to the lan side of the modem.

But before i assume anything, can you tell me whether the Modem is in Router or Bridge mode, and does it have a DHCP server?

Regards

Hi Rozana.

It is in a router mode and it has a DHCP server.

I plugged it in and it was not getting Internet. Then I realized that they are not on the same subnet.

Modem/Router is on 192.168.0.1/24

Well the SMB switches by default obtain an IP from the DCHP server.
In case the Modem uses a different VLAN ( but i doubt it ) everything should be working on the default configurations.

You can try to access the Web interface of the SG switch - 192.168.1.254
With a PC in the same network.

Then change the management IP address ( for VLAN 1 ) to be static and add an address from the 192.168.0.0 /24 ( for example 192.168.0.254 subnet mask 255.255.255.0 ).

What i suggest is to factory reset the switch, and connect it again to the modem to see if it will get an IP address from 192.168.0.0 network and also if the PCs connected to the switch will obtain an IP from the subnet of the Modem.

If you still experience issues, i think it would be best to call our support line and we will explain how to configure and connect it to the modem , step by step.

Regards

Hi Rozana,

I connected using the 192.168.1.254 changed the management IP address to an ip of the 192.168.0.0/24 subnet restarted the switch, then plugged the modem in and now it is connected to the internet also any PC that is connected to the switch.

What I was doing before and I was losing connectivity was plugging the modem while I was accessing the web interface using the 192.168.1.254.

Thanks for the support.

Hi Again,

If you still experience issues, I think it is best to open a support ticket and do a Webex.
This way i will help you with the configurations on the 2 SMB switches, and i will be able to see what happened in your network.

I still need more information to be able to understand better where is each device connected.

Also I am not sure if currently you use 1 or 2 subnets ( DHCP servers)?

I will send you a short e-mail, so we can discuss this in detail.

Regards.

Hi Rozana,

Tried to connect my switch to another switch (switch A) but once connected I cannot get an IP address from the DHCP.

The pcs on switch (Switch A) operate at 192.168.52.0 subnet. I changed the IP Address of the switch to be 192.168.52.99 this is the address given to me by the system engineers. Once I connect the two switches connectivity is lost for every other pc connected to the switch A.

When connected to modem directly worked. Now when connected to switch does not.
