Hi,

New member here. HI

Just bought a used SG350-20 from a friend that did not use it, and I login into the switch and want to update the firmware and I am running into a small issue

The device says:

Active Firmware Version:2.5.0.83

On the Website it says

2.5.9.16

Can I install this 2.5.9.16 straight over 2.5.0.83?

And secondly

What is the Managed Switch MIB download?

Hello @iammike,

so welcom' here !

It is generally recommended to update firmware versions incrementally. In your case, going from 2.5.0.83 to 2.5.9.16 is a significant jump, so it's advisable to install intermediate firmware versions first - 4 years between the two versions -

Download the intermediate firmware versions between 2.5.0.83 and 2.5.9.16. For example, you might need to download 2.5.5.47, 2.5.8.15 and you 2.5.9.16.

Managed Switch MIB refers to a file that contains definitions for SNMP variables and objects specific to the switch's management capabilities. The MIB file provides a structured format for network management systems to communicate and retrieve information from the switch. It is used for monitoring and managing the switch's performance, configuration, and status. You can download the Managed Switch MIB file from the Cisco website or software download page to integrate it with your network management system or SNMP monitoring tool.

 Hi

 I did not find any restriction for the version you are mentioning. There would be restriction if you were moving to 2.6

"Upgrading the firmware from the previous version 2.5.7.x to version 2.6 or higher is prohibited for ALL
SKUs. User must first upgrade the device(s) to version 2.5.8 and only then upgrade to version 2.6 or higher
if possible (for SKUs that are not included in the SG350XG and SG550X)."

Take my advice' use the SW first for one month at least then thinking of upgrade it.

The upgrade is not the magic solution for all issue.

Use it run stp connect to other sw or router or fw check it gui.

Thanks

MHM

Thx. I will try that, but that gives me another question if I may

What to do if the Firmware upload fails how to restore the default (or a newer) firmware. (I saved it just in case already)

@MHM Cisco World

I tend to agree with what you are saying, but what about vulnerabilities? The current firmware is from 03-Jul-2019

Some cisco device use firmware old than this.

@iammike

follow this: https://www.tekinaka.com/upgrade-firmware-on-cisco-sg350-sg550x-switches/

As concerned, SG350, when updating the device's firmware, the new firmware is always overwriting the inactive image. After uploading new firmware on the device, the next boot uses the new version. The old version becomes the inactive version after reboot.

Thx. That will be a nice project. Setting up a TFTP server etc etc etc.

The Switch will only be used for Home Use and will be the main switch after the Firewall also  2 other switches will connect to it (other brands)

Edit: Question removed as the answer is in the link M02@rt37  posted already
