Switch SG550xg DHCP Relay not working

Klaus Ohlmann

Hi Everyone,

my school bought recently two SG550xg switches. One Fibre Switch which connects to our access layer switches (also cisco) and one copper switch. They´re both stacked.

When the technician configured the DHCP relay with the following commands

ip dhcp relay address 10.21.1.8

ip dhcp information option

ip dhcp relay enable

the dchp operation didn´t work out well. The switch forwarded the broadcasts to our DHCP-Server in VLAN21, the DCHP-Server returned his offer, but this offer was caught by the switch and NOT forwarded to the requesting client.

The DCHP Relay was configured for the whole switch and all VLANs, not explicitly on every VLAN.

Does anybody have an idea why this doesn´t work?

Thanks in advance.

KLAUS, Systems Administrator, IT-teacher and Cisco Network Associate.

You have to enable all SVI for the dhcp relay to work technically.

interface vlan BB    - BB is the orginal vlan number
 ip dhcp relay enable

BB
