Upgrading boot version on SG200-50P

I have been successful at upgrading my firmware to 1.3.7.18 on my SG200-50, but it seems that I must upgrade the boot version from 1.1.0.6 in order to upgrade the firmware any further.  If this is so, can someone please tell me how to do this in very basic terms as I am not an IT professional and am quite ignorant. If it matters, I am trying to do so from a Macintosh, although I can run Windows 8 as a virtual machine if that is necessary. I have this device in my home and have no IT department to help.  Thank you so much in advance for any help.

Hello and thank you for reaching out for help.

You are right, in order to go any further you first have to upgrade the boot code.

The easiest way will be for you to start the virtual machine on windows 8 Making sure that the IP address your virtual machine is getting is on the same range as the switch.

1- Download the TFTPD64 software from this link: http://tftpd32.jounin.net/download/tftpd64.452.zip. Make sure to unzip it.

2- Make sure to disable your windows firewall.

3- Place the bootcode file (.rfb) inside the TFTPD folder.

4- Follow these steps to upgrade the bootcode (it says firmware but it works exactly the same).

I hope this helps. Please let us know.

Not a problem,

I understand how frustrating this must to be, so I created a little guide specifically designed for you.

Please look at the attached file.

I hope it helps.

Thank you cchamorr, I have completed 1 and 2 and I have the tftpd64 unzipped and on the windows desk top. I also have the unzipped file sx200_boot-13506.rfb there as well. I don't know how to accomplish/understand your step 3:  Place the boot file inside the TFTPD folder. Sorry to be so ignorant on Windows.

Hello,

Thank you for following the steps.

Don't worry about not knowing how to dos something, that's what we are here for.

What I would like for you to do in step 3 is to copy the .rfb file and paste it inside the TFTPD64 directory, just make sure that it is on the same folder as the executable for the TFTP64 software.

Let me know if this is clear.

Well, again, Windows is obscure to me.  The TFTPD application is in the desk top folder as is the boot file (at least in Macintosh lingo, sorry).  Not sure whether the TFTPD application has to be running if you mean something different. When it is running, I see the main window which states the current directory, server interfaces and then below that a number of tabs. There is no run button and there seem to be a myriad of settings and blanks to enter.  If I ever get to step 4, i don't understand it either!

Thanks, I am slowly getting it I think. I set up the TFTP program and then do the upgrade from within the router interface. I got a failed message, but let me work a bit with this. I will let you know. Thank you for your patience with me.

I understand,

If you feel like it, you can send me the screenshots of your configuration for the tftpd software as well as the switch and the error message.

I think you could run into an issue where the switch won't talk to the TFTPD server because of the windows firewall. Try to disable the firewall completely while doing the upgrade and see if it works.

Please keep me posted

cchamorr,

I am happy and astounded to report that I am now running the latest boot and software on my switch, thanks to you. Not sure why it finally worked. Your little tutorial was very helpful, although it illustrated the 32 bit version of tftpd while I had downloaded the 64 bit version, which concerned me initially.  The only other thing that I did, was replace the boot file in the windows folder with one I had downloaded on the Macintosh side.  Other than that, I was working solely within Windows 8.

Considering my level of ignorance of Windows and the whole process you are really amazing. You could walk a chimpanzee through it I bet!

Anyway, thank you so much for your excellent help.

Thank you very much, I really appreciate the kind words but you are the one who had to do everything and you got it to work, so Kudos to you too.

I'm very glad it is working for you now.

Is there any problem if we upgraded to higher boot(1.3.7.) version from 1.1.0. directly and the firmware already have 1.3.7.
