1 Gigabit SFP on a 10 Gigabit switch port

Hi All,

We have on our Nexus 7010, 8-port 10GE module (N7K-M108X2-12L) and 48-port 1/100/1000 Mbps modules. We have to terminate a 1 Gigabit Ethernet on our Nexus. What are the options? My questions are:

1. Can we terminate a 1 GE on a 10 GE port? Will 10 GE port support 1 GE? If yes, what SFP must I use?

2. We are thinking of stand-alone media converters. How reliable are they? Any recommendations for this?

I would appreciate any help with this and any reference to any document.

Thank you,

Mohan

Hi! Since the 10G module you have is X2-based there is no compatibility with SFPs. According to the Gigabit Ethernet Transceiver Compatility Matrix (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/interfaces_modules/transceiver_modules/compatibility/matrix/OL_6981.html) there is no support for SFPs in N7K-M108X2-12L as it does not apparently support CVR-X2-SFP converter.

I don't have experiences about 1G media converters but theoretically they should solve your connectivity problem without costly module purchases for N7k.
