Hello friends,
I am trying to establish a 10 GB fiber connection between two Cisco switches.
Switch 1 - Cisco WS-C3650-48PQ has 4 x 10 Gigabit Ethernet with SFP+ uplinks
Switch 2 - Cisco WS-C2960X-48FPD-L has 2 x 10 Gigibit Ethernet with SFP+ uplinks
Currently between the 2 switches I have an active 1 GB multi mode fiber connection with both switches using Cisco GBIC 1000BASE-SX.
I am trying to upgrade the link to 10 GB, prior to purchase I selected Cisco SFP-10G-SR from the Cisco data sheet
while I am able to get connectivity over 1 GB I am unable to get connectivity over 10 GB. I get no lights, nothing.
Any ideas what I might be missing? Did i purchase the wrong Gbics?
any info is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

What kind of fibre optic cable are you using? Single or multi-mode?
What is the distance between the two appliances?

On the 3650, can you try adding the command "speed nonegotiate"?

The theory I am working with is...
* I am using the wrong GBIC
o However, in examining the datasheets for both 1000BaseSX SFP and SFP-10GBase-SR. I am fairly confident I am selected the proper GBIC
? https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/interfaces-modules/gigabit-ethernet-gbic-sfp-modules/product_data_sheet0900aecd8033f885.html
? https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/interfaces-modules/transceiver-modules/data_sheet_c78-455693.html
* IOS is not current enough or not compatible
o In examining the IOS transceiver compatibility matrix - https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/interfaces_modules/transceiver_modules/compatibility/matrix/10GE_Tx_Matrix.html#_Toc496618965
? WS-C2960X-48FPD-L- requires a min IP of 15.0(2)EX
* I am running model WS-C2960X-48FPD-L SW Version 15.2(2)E6 SW Image C2960X-UNIVERSALK9-M
? WS-C3650-48PQ - requires a min IOS of XE 3.3.0SE
* I am running model WS-C3650-48PQ SW Version 03.06.04.E SW Image cat3k_caa-universalk9
With regards to the WS-C2960X-48FPD-L , I know nothing of the subtle differences between Version 15.0(2) EX verse Version 15.2(2)E6, or breaking it down further EX verse E6, could this minor difference be the issue?
With regards to the WS-C3650-48PQ , SW Version 03.06.04.E verse XE 3.3.0SE, I think I am fine, but again, subtle differences.
I don't think it is anything physical, meaning patch cable, fiber type, distance mainly because it works using 1000BaseSX SFP

You're not working on a wrong part. I've thought about this and this is why I asked for the "sh inventory" output.
I'll be frank with you, I suspect the problem is on the 3560. Can you upgrade the IOS to something NEWER (but stay with 3.6.X)?

Hello,
which releases are you running on both switches ? On the Cisco WS-C2960X-48FPD-L, you need at least 15.0(2)EX, and on the Cisco WS-C3650-48PQ, you need at least XE 3.3.0SE.

Hi,
Is this a back-to-back connection or through patch panels? Have you tested the fiber patch?
You may want to cross the fiber stands on ONE side on the connection and test again.
HTH
