I have read that CAT6 can also provide 10G speed but upto a limited distance. Is this right ??
Please share any relevant link and information.

Hello,
Yes, Cat6 (not Cat6A) provides 10G Ethernet on cable spans on lengths of 55-100m depending on its screening, quality of installation and manufacturing. Check IEEE 802.3-2012 Standard, Section 4:
http://standards.ieee.org/getieee802/download/802.3-2012_section4.pdf
and consult Table 55-17 in Chapter 55.7.2.
Best regards,
Peter

Hello Nabeel,
I have also read it but never tested. There are multiple reasons why,
1 - i could not find SFP that will support a copper cat6 RJ45 end
2 - the supportability and reliability cannot be trusted.
In the past I have used fibre and twinax cables to establish 10Gb connectivity.

Hope it helps.

Bilal,
Good points, my friend. As always, it is necessary to bridge theory and real life. The 10Gbase-T might formally be supported over plain Cat6 cabling but operational experiences and vendor support might render this support useless.
Best regards,
Peter
