10GBASE-LR link won't stand up

Hi

I am trying to commission new 10Gbps LR link over SMF using two C3750x switches but the link doesn't come up. The end to end distance is less then 10km.

I have checked transceiver details and TX/RX dBm is normal range. Can someone please advise what else I should check?

Here is details of switch-A and switch-B.

Switch-A#sh int t5/1/1

input flow-control is off, output flow-control is unsupported

ARP type: ARPA, ARP Timeout 04:00:00

Last input never, output never, output hang never

Last clearing of "show interface" counters never

Input queue: 0/75/0/0 (size/max/drops/flushes); Total output drops: 0

Hi,

- try to switch fiber optic Rx with TX;

- on both interfaces cmd :  switchport nonegociate

Hi Dan,

I've already tried your both suggestions but didn't make any difference.

Hi Alex,

Here are some things I think might help (some of them are pretty long shots, but you never know...):

- "show version" (maybe it's an IOS bug)

- "show inventory" (for part numbers of the transceivers and the modules they're plugged into)

- what happens if you configure "speed nonegotiate" on both ends?

- are there any multimode fiber patches on the way?

- are you sure that's dark fiber between the switches? it almost looks like each is connected to something other than 10GbE...

Hi Lulian,

- I don't have "show version" information but I don't think this is related to IOS bug as I did same test using other Nexus switches.

- I don't have "show inventory" information but here is information when I tested with Nexus7K.

Nexus7K#sh int e3/17 transceiver details

Ethernet3/17

    transceiver is present

    type is 10Gbase-LR

    name is CISCO-FINISAR

    part number is FTLX1474D3BCL-CS

    revision is A

    serial number is FNS16150CE0

    nominal bitrate is 10300 MBit/sec

Link length supported for 9/125um fiber is 10 km

- I haven't tried "speed nonegotiate"  But I hard set speed at both end to 10000 FULL. Will try it at next stage.

- I don't think there are MMF patches but I think it is worth double check.

- I confirm that's  dark fiber.

I'm going to ask our fiber team to run end to end OTDR test to see SMF details.

Thanks

Alex

One quick test then:  if you take a short patch and "loop" any of the problematic transceivers, does the link come up?

Hi,

What is the power value at Mux A end and Mux B end , Are they getting appropriate signal strength.

-GI

Hi Ganeshh

I'm going to ask someone to run end-to-end OTDR test to check signal strength and so on.
