2960 factory reset and restore of web interface

Hello everyone,

I'm admittedly new here and recently came into possession of an old Catalyst 2960 model WS-C2960-48PST-L. This switch was removed from service due to a network refresh and the guys were nice enough to donate it to me for my home system. My current system has a Netgear 8 port switch, Cisco WS-C2960G-24TC-L and an 8 port Milan PoE switch. I'm looking to replace the 3 current switches with the slightly newer donated one. My issue is that my Cisco experience is limited to the simple web interface. I'm not a CLI guy by any stretch of the imagination.

The donated switch was "wiped" by the donating IT department. I think they deleted CONFIG.TEXT and the VLAN information. The web interface does not load (404 not found) and I'm looking to restore it to this switch. I spent almost a day googling different solutions, downloading BIN and TAR files, poking away on PUTTY and FTPing files. It was toward the end of that first day I realized I downloaded the files for the wrong switch. Once I got the proper BIN file in there the switch booted but no web interface. Tried the TAR file but no luck there either. Discovered during the second or third day that there was no HTML folder in FLASH: and modified the TAR file to extract hopefully in the proper place. Web interface loaded to first screen but would not go further. After contemplating percussion therapy with a big hammer, I finally walked away from it for a while.

Look guys, I don't care what was or is on the switch. I just want to restore it to a state where I have the web interface and can enable/disable the channel, PoE, can give the channel a name and do some basic monitoring of traffic numbers. This has to be almost a dummies version because that's what I am.

Thanks for any help given.

Mike

GUI comes with a TAR file, if you booted with .bin file you will not get any GUI - For us  to help you better, if the device is booted  and you have a console connected

post below output :

show version

dir

For example below "d" means directory, then you can get GUI here.

drwx 192 Mar 01 1993 22:30:48 c2960-lanbase-mz.122-25.FX

Thank you for the reply. I haven't completely given up and did some more googling. I also have the non-PoE switch I've been able to telnet into and look at the structures and files.

Space on the switch keeps killing me but I was able to get the proper file versions. Using that and the old switch as an example, I did the following:

Iinstalled and booted the BIN file then deleted the BIN and used the command

archive tar /xtract tftp://192.168.1.205/c2960-lanbasek9-tar.122-55.SE12.tar flash:

I then changed the boot path and restarted the switch. It boots properly but I still don't have a proper web gui. I'm given the choice to use a secure session. Choose no and I can't do anything in the GUI (of course). Choose yes and I get:

This site can’t provide a secure connection

192.168.1.206 uses an unsupported protocol.

ERR_SSL_VERSION_OR_CIPHER_MISMATCH

and

The client and server don't support a common SSL protocol version or cipher suite.

I feel like even with all my bumbling I'm getting close. If I can get the secure web gui working, should be in good shape!

Thanks!

Sorry, I was away for a couple days.

This was occurring in Chrome. I tried internet explorer as you suggested and after enabling a couple security options it is now working.

What an adventure this was! Thanks for all the help!
