Dears,

I have a stack of 2 no's ws-c2960x-48lps-l switches , switch 1 failed and i have got the new from Cisco now to place it back in the stack what procedure i shld follow.

Is it the below procedure correct.or please suggest the correct  cisco best practice

  • Increase the priority of the switch 2 to 15 and make it as a master.
  • and then connect the new switch with the stack cables, all configuration from the switch 2 will be copied to switch 1
  • My switch was connecting to firewall and acting as a core so is it necessary to make switch 1 as a master.

Thanks

Hi,

yes, this is correct.

The only thing you need to take care of is, that your existing switch is the master.
In that case the configuration is copied from the existing switch to the new switch.

After that happened, you can switch master if you want.

But the first time you connect the new switch, you must avoid that the new switch becomes master, in that case the empty config would be copied to the existing switch.

In any case, I would just backup the configuration before you interconnect them.

Regards,
Markus

Adam,

I would like to add one important thing, which is once you change the priority before adding to stack switch off the switch and connect the switch to stack and then open on. Else the complete stack will be reload.

Hello guys,

I also have a similar issue but mine is the 2960s-series switch.

My questions are;

1. is the procedure the same across all the models in the 2000 series switch family?

2. is there a document that describes the details of this procedure?

Thank you!
