Update IOS and switch will not come up.  How do I recover the switch to load the old image file?

1. plug in switch

2. hold mode button for 15 seconds

3. boot into rommon mode

4. type 'flash_init'

5. type 'dir flash:'

6. type 'delete flash:(filename of corrupted IOS)'

7. type 'boot'

Given that you haven't erased the old IOS on the switch this will boot into the working one if it's the only IOS on the device. otherwise you'll have to tell its variables to boot which IOS, you can do this by typing

'set BOOT=(IOS you wish to boot)'

If you have deleted the IOS, then you will have to follow xmodem steps in order to load an IOS onto the device.

Thank you.

1) open CRT application or any one which is supporting Xmodem option
2) download the right version for the cisco switch, normally mentioned on the back of the SW
3)FYI! 16MB image file at 115Kbps would take approximately 17 Minutes.
4)unplug the SW and before you connect the power and console press the button in front of SW and switch on cisco sw after write down flash_init ,after change data transfer rate to Set BAUD 115200
5)disconnect and reconnect the CRT by changing the serial port to 115200
6)now copy xmodem: flash:c2960-lanbasek9-mz.122-50.SE5.bin
7) at the same time go to transfer in CRT and select send Xmodem ,select the ios image and send it.

8)boot flash:c2960-lanbasek9-mz.122-50.SE5.bin
9) unset BAUD
