I have a core Cisco 4506 with several 4948 & 3020 switches and 1 OLD 3524 switch connected.
One of the 4948's is set to VTP master and the 4506 is set to client and all others are set to transparent.
When I turn off or disconnect the old 3524, a few hosts in just 1 vlan (5) become unreachable. All other hosts in that vlan are still reachable.
This is repeatable.
There is nothing connected to the 3524 other than a fiber trunk port.
I want to remove the 3524.. would setting ALL switches to transparent help?
Other suggestions?

If the 3524 is already configured as transparent mode and no end device is connected to it, than removing it should not cause any issue.

I agree but that is not what is happening.. at least two hosts in one of the vlans become unreachable and come back when the 3524 is re-connected.

Are you sure there is no hosts connected to this switch and the VTP mode is transparent?
what is the output of sh vtp status?

Nothing connected except the trunk..
As you can see, the switch was configured quite a while ago.

Do you see the MAC addresses for the 2 hosts that get disconnected?

is vlan 5 configured on this switch and is there any ports in this vlan?

Vlan 5 is not configured on any ports on this switch, CDP is off and vlan 5 does not show up in the table, maybe I should config. a port for vlan 5? It appears as lshut?

No.. not a nexus.. just a very old layer 2 switch.
