Do you need valid Cisco smartnet support on a 3750x (ip base) switch in order to obtain ios image updates ?
Also can anyone provide a brief overview of what other feature licensing options there are for this switch that is setup with IP base image.
I'm a little confused that if I have a 3750x with IP base that I will have to buy additional licenses for certain features..
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers

You need a valid support contract to be able to download software. You may be entitled to some releases if there was an emergency security update that affected you. To see the licensing refer to:
The IP services has full L3 support while the IP base has a more limited feature set for routing.
I did a comparison for two images, one with IP base and one with IP services so you can see the difference. You can use the feature navigator to do the same at www.cisco.com/go/fn
These are the unique features for IP services:

Besides Smartnet support (required to update IOS versions and receive hardware and other TAC support) you would need to purchase a license upgrade to move from ipbase to ipservices.
The necessary part number depends on your exact model number and is as specified on Table 20 of the product data sheet.
