3850 Fiber Dropping packets on Single Mode Duplex Fiber SFP/Link

metuckness

Level 1

Hi All,

I have a 3805-XS switch:

Switch Ports Model SW Version SW Image Mode
------ ----- ----- ---------- ---------- ----
* 1 34 WS-C3850-24XS 03.07.04E cat3k_caa-universalk9 INSTALL

I am installing an Axis Thermal Camera and I am using the AXIS T8612 SFP Module LC.SX in the camera and the Cisco GLC-LH-SMD. But I am having an issue with connectivity. I will get connectivity for about a minute, then drop packets, repeat.

I read on the forums it could be my firmware, but I am not sure how to confirm. My issue is, I am about to put it up on a 380ft tower and I would like to have an idea the equipment, at least, is compatible so I don't have to go back up on the tower to replace.

The SFP is plugged into port 13.

Any suggestions?

Hi,

SFP Module LC.SX in the camera and the Cisco GLC-LH-SMD

SX is short haul and LH is long haul. It seems that you are using LH on the Cisco switch and SX on the camera. Can you verify?

Also, have you replaced/tested the fiber patch?

Sorry, that was on me. I posted the wrong model of the Axis SFP. I do have the Axis Communications T8611 Small Form-Factor Pluggable Single-Mode LC.LX Fiber Module in the camera.

I think it might be an insufficient power issue. The DC power supply I have it 4.5 amp, and it looks like the camera, with the IR illuminators and thermal imaging, can use up to 9.5 amps. So, I need to get a 9.5 or probably an 11.5 amp power supply to attempt and see if it helps because I have replaced modules, patch, and everything except for an IOS update on the switch. I plan to do that, but it requires a scheduled downtime and not something I am tackling during the holidays.

I just figured out it might be the PS, but I have to order a larger one and wait till it gets here.

It is not (yet) the firmware & I agree with Reza. The SFPs at both ends are not of the same wavelength.
