3850 iso upgrade- Failed to create candidate tree. Operation aborted.

i get this message when i try to upgrade my 3850 stack ios.

i have tried deleteing and using a fresh downloaded config file. ive tried loading from USB, copy from USB to flash then load.

please advise.

The 2nd switch may need to be taken "off" the stack and upgraded manually.

Or maybe the 2nd stack's IOS is installed as a "bundle".

i thought about this option and was hoping this was not the answer, but ya gotta do what you gotta do.

both switches are in install mode.

I used the command software install file flash:cat3k_caa-universalk9.16.12.08.SPA.bin switch 1-2 new force and worked!
