Sup7E/LE & Sup8E/LE supports VSS.
Be aware that not all chassis supports Sup8E/LE.

Hi,
What is the minmum license required for enabling vss
Thanks

I believe IP Base is sufficient to initiate VSS, however, the license is not the only thing to consider. For VSS the supervisor card, particularly the Sup7E/LE, requires a minimum level of IOS and ROMmon.

For the chassis, see table 4 in: http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/switches/catalyst-4500-series-switches/product_data_sheet0900aecd801792b1.html

Hi
4503,06,07 and 10 does not support 10G fiber line cards ?
Thanks

You mean the older chassis models? If so, yes, they wouldn't support 10g line cards (or sup6 and higher).
If you mean the later chassis, see the bottom of table 3.

Exactly how many SFP+ ports are required?
The backplane of the 4500R+E, with new cards like Sup7/Sup8, can support up to 48 Gbps per slot.
And even then, this is strictly a Level Layer 2 switch.

What is level 2 switch
Sorry, I meant Layer 2.

Hi,
I need minimum 8 sfp ,
Since 4503 ,07,10 are layer 2 (I am planning to use as core switch(collapsed core ) ) ,
what would you suggest ?
4500-X is ok ?
Thanks

And even then, this is strictly a Level Layer 2 switch.
Believe Leo is referencing only if using an IP Base IOS version. With a "better" feature set IOS version, many 4500 sups are L3 capable.

True, but I wouldn't configure MPLS/VRF on Cat 4K.

The 4500-X also supports VSS.
