Adrian Ardelean

Hi,

I'm about to buy an 4500-X as a core switch. Do I need ent. serv. for using "ip policy route-map" or is IP base enough?
Thanks a lot!

A.

Hi,

According to the data sheet, you need enterprise services license:

The IP Base image does not support enhanced routing features such as BGP,

Intermediate System-to-Intermediate System (IS-IS), Internetwork Packet Exchange (IPX), AppleTalk,

Virtual Routing Forwarding (VRF-lite), GLBP, and policy-based routing (PBR).

Yes, I'm afraid you're right.
Couple of thousands for PBR...

Yes, the hardware itself is not very expensive if you get a decent discount.  The licensing make it more expensive.

Good Luck

Right again, got more than sixty percent off MSRP, but quite expensive the license

Yes, 60 percent is a very good discount. The other thing that makes it more expensive is the SmartNet contract and that is because you don't get the same discount as the hardware.  Usually the SmartNet discount is about 20 to 30 percent.
