Hello everyone I hope someone can help me I just picked a used 4506 switch but it only boots to rommon after I give it a boot command it will boot. I have tried to modify the boot variable but it doesn't seem to want to change. Any help would be helpful.
Switch#sh bootvar
BOOT variable = bootflash:cat4500-ipbase-mz.122-46.sg,1;bootflash:cat4500e-ipbasek9-mz.122-46.sg.bin,1;
CONFIG_FILE variable does not exist
BOOTLDR variable does not exist
Configuration register is 0x102

Console into the supervisor card and reboot. Post the entire boot-up process.

I know if I type boot at rommon prompt the switch boots fine.
I want to see this.
The config-registry of the chassis is 0x0102. The last bit, "02", means boot using the boot variable string.
So here's the kicker: For chassis-based system, like Catalyst 4K & 6K, if the boot variable string has the wrong syntax, the switch will boot immediately into ROMmon.
If this is the issue then there are two methods that can be done:
1. Edit the boot variable string to the correct syntax; or
2. Change the config-registry to 0x0101 (or 0x2101)
