I have two 6509's at the core of our network. They are both running at about 30% constantly when displaying a sho proc cpu i get this
sho proc cpu | ex 0.00
CPU utilization for five seconds: 30%/20%; one minute: 29%; five minutes: 30%

Is this normal? These switches aren't even running a routing protocol, as routes are all statically defined. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello Greg,
I would say there is a consistent part of packets that is sent to cpu
69 8595920923130459271 274 6.55% 6.23% 6.25% 0 IP Input
all the other cpu usage is caused by SW interrupts
What IOS image is running?
is the chassis in native ios or hybrid mode?
Hope to help
Giuseppe

Hello Greg,
release notes mention the following:
You might see high CPU utilization if you enter the logging synchronous command. This problem is resolved in Release 12.1(23)E. (CSCed16920)
my comment:
the command is given under line con 0
Hope to help
Giuseppe
