Hi all,

One of our client has 6509-E chassis with 2 SUP 720. They purchased 6506-E and placed one of the SUP to this chassis. They have performed configuration on new 6506 but now for some reason they want to place SUP back to 6509. What will happen to the startup config ? do they need to remove it before placing it back to old chassis ?

Hi,

No, they don't need remove the config.  Both Chassis are E series and sup-720 will work in either one.   For both models the sups go to slot 5 and 6.  They just may need to make some port adjustment if they are moving the blades around.

Sir what will happen to the config done on 6506 chassis ? will it remove when we plug the sup back to 6509 ?

Hello John.

When Sup from 6506 will boot as standby in 6509 chassis it will download config from active Sup. So old configuration will be rewrite.

The only thing to pay attention here is - place second Sup in chassis 6509 chassis when it operational. Don’t switch off chassis, than add second sup and boot up, this can lead to that Sup moved from 6506 will get active and synchronize it config to 6509 old Sup.
