6509e Boot Variable : = does not exist error

Level 2

Hi,

I have 6509-e switch with IOS ( s72033-ipservicesk9_wan-mz.122-33.SXI4a.bin ) and supervisor engine is SUP720-3B

Our requirement is to downgrade with Catos in SP and  IOS in RP ..... so we have downloaded below images from cisco :

catOS Images :

cat6000-sup720cvk8.8-6-6a.bin

IOS in RP :

c6msfc3-adventerprisek9_wan-mz.122-18.SXF17a.bin

we copied catOS in sup-bootflash : and IOS for RP in bootflash:

we have disk0: also where we have Earlier IOS ( s72033-ipservicesk9_wan-mz.122-33.SXI4a.bin ) ...

once we reboot , we are able to see the catOS console> prompt

we could see the correct version also with show version . it is attached the same.

Now if we try to login to RP with below command :

console > ( enable ) switch console 15

It should go router user exec mode : ( Router > )

but we are getting into rommon 1 > mode

here we will have to give command called :  rommon > boot bootflash:c6msfc3-adventerprisek9_wan-mz.122-18.SXF17a.bin

it will boot with this ... but again if i reload with config-reg value 0x2102 ,,,, it is going in rommon mode only .....

i have below error when i give " show boot " command

Router#show boot
BOOT variable does not exist
CONFIG_FILE variable does not exist
Configuration register is 0x2102

Standby is not present.

how do i configure the  boot variable ?

whether i am having the right images at right places ...

i tried to check in download software cisco optioin  and i am trying the same ....

Please share the knowledge .

It would be appreciative

Hi,

WS-X6708-10GE is not supported on CatOS. Minimum requirements are sup720+ IOS version 12.2(18) SX5.

Hi,

Once you boot the MSFC from RP rommon (by typing the boot command on rommon>) and it comes up online, you can set the boot variable by entering the following in global config mode and saving the config:

router#conf t

router(conf)# boot system flash bootflash:c6msfc3-adventerprisek9_wan-mz.122-18.SXF17a.bin

router(conf)#exit

router#wr

router#sh boot (you should see the boot variable set here)

Hope this helps,

Shashank
