6509Es in VSS mode, One sup having issues

We have a pair of 6509Es running in VSS mode, basically 2 6509Es tied together to look as a single box running the VSS software. On the non-active processor in the secondary unit I am seeing issues. Both sups (one only per 6509) are the Sup 720 10GE cards. The standby sup cannot access the slavedisk0: , slavesup-bootdisk: or slavesup-bootflash:  nothing except for the slavebootflash: files so if it needs to reboot it may never come back up.

My question is this....all is currently running and the second 6509 with the broken sup is connected and online. I assume that if I do anything on the second sup --- such as a reboot of the supervisor card --  that am going to drop the interface connections attached to that second 6509? Correct?   Without  the sup running in a chassis I don't think my interfaces will remain active without a secondary sup in that same chassis. A sup reboot may fix my issues but I can't just do that on a production box and take the risk of dropping connections everywhere.

I plan on calling Cisco and opening a TAC case to have them troubleshoot but I think a second sup on hand will be needed before I can do any power work.  Thanks

As long as your access switches or any other device you have connected to both VSS switches you will be fine. You will drop any device interface if that device is only connected to the second switch.

That said, you should do the reboot during an outage window.
