837 and Ethernet 2 (DMZ)

Hi there,

I've just updated my 837 ADSL router to IOS 12.3(11)T3, which is supposed to enable a second Ethernet port (using the physical FastEthernet 4 port) for DMZ use.

I've successfully flashed the device, and followed the instructions:

>Router(config)#interface fastethernet4

>

>Router(config-if)#no shutdown

>

>Router(config)#interface ethernet 2

>

>Router(config-if)#no shutdown

>

>Switch port 4 now connected to ethernet 2 interface.

But whenever I enter the "interface ethernet 2" line I get "invalid input detected" for the number 2.

Has anyone else had similar problems?

Cheers,

S.

I think it may be a bug or the problem with the hardware , Please check with your Vendor.

It should be FastEthernet2, not Ethernet2.

Try one of the following versions.

12.3(8)YG

12.3(7)XR

12.3(11)YK

These are the one's I have found, that document the use of Ethernet2 as a Layer3 interface.

Good luck

Thanks for the reply. I came to the same conclusion myself. Changed to 13.3(7)XR3, and everything is working as it should.

I just tried 12.3(11)YK, on a C831 with 48 MB RAM and 12 MB Flash.

After rebooting the router, it said that there wasn't enough RAM, and rebooted endlessly.

I'll try the 12.3(8)YG later today, maybe I'll have more luck with that.

Do you know if the 13.3(7)XR3 supports BGP, EIGRP and multipoint GRE in the IP/FW/PLUS 3DES feature set?

Sorry, that was a typo on my part. It should read 12.3(7)XR3.

As to the features you need, I'm not sure. But I would recommend checking out the IOS feature navigator. It helped me identify which version supported the DMZ. Good luck

I've been running the 12.3(8)YG1 version for more then 25 minutes, without crashing.

It seems like BGP, EIGRP, DMVPN, 3DES and object tracking, all works. Hurrah!
