871 erases NVRAM after power off.

Router loses startup-config because router deletes NVRAM after power off/on.

Is fine after reboot.

C870 series (Board ID: 3-148) platform with 131072 Kbytes of main memory

The router is running a "T" train.
For stability purposes, use an "M" train.

Any idea where I can get IOS....could not find it anywhere on Cisco site.

Configuration register is OK. Not sure exactly what the issue is though. 
When you reboot the router is the configuration gone once it's booted back up? Or you just see the prompt to say NVRAM is being erased?

It only erases NVRAM after a power off/on.....is fine after reboot.

It boots up into IOS.

It does not prompt to erase NVRAM...it just does it and then boots again into initial setup mode.

on a side note, how old is your router ?

Probably 8 years old.
