9407 - Remove Standby Switch in operating mode

Greetings,

I have 9407 switch with 2 Supervisor Engine - C9400-SUP-1XL.

My question is I would like to remove the standby SUP while the core switch is up and running.

As the network is up and running and I don't have the permission to shut down the core switch.

Is this possible. If so what is the procedure to follow.

Kindly advice.

Hi

Removing and Replacing Line Cards

"All Cisco Catalyst 9400 Series line cards support hot swapping, which lets you install, remove, replace, and rearrange line cards without powering off the system. When the system detects that a line card has been installed or removed, it runs diagnostic and discovery routines automatically, acknowledges the presence or absence of the module, and resumes the system operation with no operator intervention."

But, always do this in maintenance window.

Hi,

Before making any changes, verify that both sups are configured in SSO mode. Use command "show redundancy" and if the output shows the primary sup as "active" and backup sup as "standby hot" in a maintenance window you can simply remove the standby sup. This action should have no user impact.
