Accessing 2 VLAN from a L2 Switch

I have a single IP Network in my office. There are two departments who generally communicate with their respective department. I want to create 2 VLANs (Say VLAN 100 & 200) for the two departments so that the traffic is limited to their own VLANs. But both department needs to talk to the server. Hence both the VLAN (100 & 200) should be availble to the Server port in switch. I have got Cisco 2960 switch.

If I make the switch port connected to Server as trunk then both the VLAN can be assigned to it but how will server decipher the tagged VLAN packet ?

I want some solution without changing my Network IP address and without L3 switch. What is the possible solution to the above problem with Cisco 2960 L2 switch.

If you want to have 2 different vlans (100 & 200) you need to create SVIs (layer-3 gateways) for both vlans on the switch and use a switch that is capable of doing layer-3, if not the vlans will not be able to communicate with each other. The 2960 is just a layer-2 switch, you can only have one SVI and that is usually for the entire network including the management.

Hello,

Having only 2960 l2 switch, you cant do the required task. As the access ports woudl be configred with either of the two vlans or trunk ports.

But tell me onething where is the gaetway configred for these vlans ??
