ACL CPU impact C3845 - 'any' or specific host addr

Hi All,

All else being equal, which (if either) will have more CPU impact,

ip access-list extended fred

permit ip host 1.1.1.1 any range 8000 8049

or

ip access-list extended fred

permit ip any any range 8000 8049

It's being applied to MQC QoS marking.
Regards, MH

In theory, your 2nd instance should have less CPU impact since the router doesn't have to test the source IP.  In practice, much depends on how the router's IOS actually processes the ACL statement and the difference is CPU processing, if any, is likely to be so slight it would might be difficult even to measure the difference.
