Adding a new 3750x into an existing stack

I need to add another switch 3750x to the stack,

1. I have installed the same version of IOS on the new switch of that which is on the stack.
   
2. I have added the switch 6 provisionws-c3750x-24p statement on the master switch
   
3. on the new switch
   
   1. From the global configuration mode, issue the command switch 9 priority 2· ( the master in the stack is 13)
      
   2. From the bootloader switch: prompt, issue the command set SWITCH_PRIORITY=2
      
4. now ihave to connect the swith.
   

QUESTION:

1. Do I have to shutdown the entire stack to connect phisically the new switch? or can i add the switch while is productions?
   
2. can you give me the steps.
   
3. Also, have i missed anyadditional configuration steps before connecting the new switch
   
4. 
   

kindly advice becuase I do not see steps to follow from the website?

I am going to have turn up and configure a new 3750 stack tonight for work. This is the documentation I have been working off of. This should answer all your questions

Hi Victor,

You can leave the entire stack powered on during insertion.

Make sure that your stackwise ring is running at full speed (32G) before you start disconnecting the stacking cables:

sh switch stack-ring speed

...If it is running at 16G then check the the stack-ring port output to determine where the break in the ring is:

sh switch stack-ports

Fix any problems before you proceed otherwise you may disconnect a swith(es) from the switchstack.

Insert the switch in the rack and connect the stacking cables in the same X format as the rest of the stack.

Power on the switch, it will not win the election and will become a stack member and take the lowest available stack number.

Since you have provisioned the switch already, you have the opportunity to configure its switchports before it is powered on.

This won't work

You WILL NOT be able to run the "priority" unless the new switch is cabled up, powered up and successfully joined the stack.

From the bootloader switch: prompt, issue the command set SWITCH_PRIORITY=2

This process/step is useless.

NOTE:  How many switches do you have in your stack?  If your response is going to be >=7 then I'd recommend you re-design your stack.  There's a prevailing issue when you are stacking 3750-series switches  with seven or more in a stack.  A lot of us had horrifying experiences when we stack seven or more.  Don't go beyond six.

Here are the proven (and foolproof) steps:

Prep work:

1.  Make sure your new switch has the same IOS version and the same Feature Set;

2.  Make sure your new switch does NOT have any configuration AND VLAN.dat file;

Stack work:

3.  Power down the NEW SWITCH only (the main stack can be left powered on);

4.  Install your new switch in the rack, again NEW SWITCH IS POWERED OFF;

5.  Install the stacking cable;

6.  Power on the New switch

Optional work:

7.  Verify the bootup;

8.  Configure switch priority; and

9.  Finish!
