Adding a new c2960x switch to an existing stack of c2960x switches

I need to add a new switch, maybe 2 new switches to an existing stack of 2 switches. I have yet to find any documentation or threads that describe what needs to be done on the new switch before adding it to the stack.

I understand in the stack master I should check priority. Currently both switches in that stack have priority of '1'. That should, if I read things correctly, be changed so that the stack master has priority of 15 and the member switch has something lower, maybe 14..

I have provisioned the 3rd switch, I think, already in the configuration of the stack master.

The new switch is new, well it has been defaulted to factory settings...

What, if anything, do I need to do with the new switch before stacking it into the existing switch stack?

Thank you in advance!

Thank you for that. I read that article, which was very helpful, but it doesn't cover what prep work needs to be done to the switch that will be new to the stack. Assuming there is a new provision entry for it already in the stack master configuration and that that new provision has a lower priority than the existing switches in the stack.. is there anything else that needs to be done to the new switch before mounting it, connecting the stacking cables and powering it on? Will that 'new' switch inherit configuration settings from the stack master automatically? Should the new switch be reset to factory defaults before being connected or does that not matter?

Yes, 'new' switch inherit configuration settings from the stack master automatically;  One other thing is to have IOS version identical or as close as possible. older switch will (or may) copy IOS during powering on process, which may take upto 20 minutes.

The most Important part is the Master switch priority of 15 while back up master (if u choose to have one) has priority of 14, and all others lower or at default of 1. Do back up existing config from master switch just in case.  Having new switch set to its default factory settings is also important but not as critical as priority settings. Make sure you have at least a half ring connection at all times; that is at least 1cable connecting all switches (full ring is with 2 cables at each switch).
