Additional RJ45 Port Required on Cisco 1941 ISR

HI Experts ,

One of branch locations has a Cisco 1941 Router . The port details are as follows

Gi0/0 - ISP line

Gi0/1 - Inside Network ( To a 2960 Switch)

Now they have procurred another line from ISP through which  MPLS based VPN to the Main location is configured.

What are the options I have , to terminate it on the Router ? As all the On board LAN ports are filled I guess I wont be able to do anything with the current setup .

Are Switching modules available ?

What is the Embedded-Service-Engine0/0 port that I see on #sh ip int b output ?

Please help !

Many Thanks ,

Anup

Regards,
Anup

Hi,

I think you can add additional HWIC module with 1 or 2 FastEthernet routed ports. But you need minimum IOS 15.0(1)M IPbase version to support it.

Thanks for your response, Abzal

This is the show version output on the Branch 1941 Router

Cisco IOS Software, C1900 Software (C1900-UNIVERSALK9-M), Version 15.1(4)M3, REL

EASE SOFTWARE (fc1)

Technical Support: http://www.cisco.com/techsupport

Copyright (coffee) 1986-2011 by Cisco Systems, Inc.

Compiled Tue 06-Dec-11 16:02 by prod_rel_team

ROM: System Bootstrap, Version 15.0(1r)M15, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)

Riyadh_Router uptime is 6 weeks, 4 days, 23 hours, 12 minutes

System returned to ROM by power-on

System restarted at 18:04:41 UTC Tue Oct 2 2012

System image file is "flash0:c1900-universalk9-mz.SPA.151-4.M3.bin"

Last reload type: Normal Reload

So Can I go for that HWIC module and it would work fine right ?

Please correct me if I am wrong, I guess this the second generation default IOS image with k9 Services. Is that right ?

Thanks ,

Anup

Yes, your Cisco IOS version is compatible with module. You have two options here. You can either HWIC-1FE with 1 FastEthernet or HWIC-2FE with 2 FE routed/switched ports.

Hope it will help.

Abzal

Yes , It was much helpful indeed !

Could you also help me with what this " Embedded-Service-Engine0/0" means ?

Many Thanks,
