advanced ip IOS

I purchased an 871 router with the standard IOS.  I am not able to do VLAN routing on it because of the IOS limitations.  Is it worth buy the advanced IP IOS for this router or is it worth getting a newer router with it already installed?  Also more or less how much is the Advanced IP IOS?

How many VLANs do you want?

Depending on your IOS, the 870 router can support a minimum of 2 VLANs (with VLAN 1 as the first one) and up to 10 VLANs.

Currently, you are running IOS version 12.4.  This version will only allow 2 VLANs.  For up to 10 VLANs, you need to DOWNGRADE your IOS to version 12.3.

Standard IOS usually support vlans.  You don't need advanced IP for it.

can you post "sh ver"?

HTH

below is the version info, But what i am trying to do is VLAN routing from a 2960 switch.  I have 4 vlans on the switch and I would like to be able to route them out to the internet and to each other.  I was told that I could only do this with the Advanced IP IOS.

ROM: System Bootstrap, Version 12.3(8r)YI3, RELEASE SOFTWARE

prouter uptime is 15 weeks, 2 days, 6 hours, 49 minutes

System returned to ROM by power-on

System image file is "flash:c870.124-15.T1.bin"

This does not tell what feature set you are running.  It just tell the version.

There is no Advanced IP IOS for 2960 switch

can you provide the entire "sh ver" from the 2960 and 871 router?

871 router sh ver.

Your IOS supports vlans

according to this sh version it shows I have the advanced IP IOS but I am unable to VLAN Routing.  I cant do the following commands

router(config)#interface fastethernet 0/0.1

according to what I was told that I need another IOS.

when I do sh vlans it says that "No Virtual LANS Configured"  here is a copy a piece of the sh run and see that I have vlans configured.
