Alternate IP Addresses

Hi All,

Strange problem. I have a L3 switch that has an IP link to another switch with a primary and an alternate IP address.

When I ping off of that switch, the first hop shows as follows:

1 10.52.252.58 0 msec primary add

10.52.252.57 0 msec alt address

10.52.252.58 4 msec primary add

2 10.52.252.18 0 msec 0 msec 0 msec

Any idea why it bounces between the two?

Check your routing table. What routing protocol are you using?

Check the route metrics for the the primary and secondary IP address on the switches, and anything in between.

Hi,

There is nothing inbetween.

The routing protocol is OSPF and the metric to both addresses is 0.
