Hello. There is an network, using 4 Cisco ASR as layer 3 gateway for ring of layer 2 Cisco switches. Topology looks like square, which angles is ASR-s, and sides is connected one by one by chain topology, which makes an enclosed loop of a layer 2. Loop protection protocol, realized int his topology is REP. There is a default gateway for all these switches and connected to them hosts, realized by VRRP on each of these ASR. REP protocol configured on each layer 2 switch, and on 2 ports of ASR, which connected to nearest switch in chain.
Now I want to change some Cisco switches to another vendor switches. REP is proper protocol of Cisco, then new switches won't use it. And yet I use ASR, I must choose protocol, what supports ASR and new switches. I think to use MSTP protocol, because each ASR have another layer 2 rings like this.
The question is, can I use MSTP in this topology, what I gain or lose if change REP to MSTP? Or maybe there is more appropriate protocol?

What is the other vendor you replacing and what model of the device ?
May be you can sue Rapid STP and make sure you place with VLAN and Prority (high level)

Huawei, but model hasn't set yet. I can use this with no change in my topology? I just want to use Huawei switches and don't make changes in topology, then there is some protocol, that protects ring from loop instead REP
