Hello all,
Since my company uses 'own fabricated' switches (in collaboration with cisco, everything is cisco enabled) i had a little question.
Note that the main difference is that there is a webinterface in which most setting can be made instead of the CLI (in automation, almost no one is schooled in the tcp/ip networks)
After a reset to factory values the webpage is available at any given adress due to the dhcp beeing enabled, there an express window apears. In this window the ip adress of the switch is set, yet it seems my collegues leave the dhcp enabled option on, without an adress pool.
This made me wonder, how does a cisco switch react to this (dhcp enabled without a pool)?

Hi,
I just tested in GNS3 with a router and it receives the DHCP Discover from the client but does nothing, if there is an address pool which is empty then it looks for a pool but finds none but doesn't send any DHCP message to the client.
Regards.
Alain

Hi Ronald,
If a cisco switch receive the DHCP broadcast from a network for which it does not have a dhcp scope configured it will ignore that dhcp request.
Hope that helps..
