Hi all, can anyone tell me the various options for booting in the rommon mode, is this normally used only for copying in a new image etc? do we tell the device where the ios is after initial configuration in the cli using the boot system flash command?

Hi Carl

Normally boot commands are used to point the ios file which is required to be used while booting.

If you have multiple ios .bin files which is of different feature set then you can prioritize based on the feature you want to have in router .

Also during recovery you can make use of the command to make sure your router reboots after reloading the image or even trying to attempt to load with the ios available on the flash..

regds

is this done in rommon or the cli ?

Hi,

If your router does not find a valid system image, or if its configuration file is corrupted at startup, or the configuration register is set to enter ROM monitor mode, the system enters ROM monitor mode. From this mode, you can manually load a system image from the following locations:

. Internal Flash memory or a Flash memory PC card

. A network server file

. ROM

. A local or remote computer, using the Xmodem or Ymodem protocol.

HTH, please do rate all helpful replies,

Mohammed Mahmoud.

Here are the basic commands:

IP_ADDRESS=

IP_SUBNET_MASK=

DEFAULT_GATEWAY=

TFTP_SERVER=

TFTP_FILE=

tftpdnld - this command will make the device download the IOS image.
