Boot to rommon mode after "Mainboard hardware authentication failed"

Carlton

I received the error, Mainboard hardware authentication failed,  Abort init ... after a reboot from the install add command on a C9300LM -48UX-4Y-A switch. Unable to input anything or get a prompt.

I’m currently trying to get the SW into rommon Mode, but holding the Mode button during boot isn’t working.

Any troubleshooting advice ?

I had to press the Mode button 3 times during boot when LED light first flashes to get it to rommon mode. Thanks for input Dustin and Leo.

Did you get this from a licensed VAR? The error is similar to a bootleg Cisco device that works until you try to install/upgrade, then the software is legit and checks that the hardware is authentic.

Otherwise it sounds like a TAC/RMA

This is a very well-known issue and nothing can be done.

Contact Cisco TAC and organize an RMA.
