Yesterday a coleagu accdently removed the CF card from the router now the router does no longer want to boot completely.

It extracts the image from the CF card but when it has to initialize the configuration it stucks there for hours. Can it be that the startup config is somehow corrupted?

Anyone any idea how to solve this?

When i try to tftpdnld is says that the mac address is illegal.

The first line of the cookie looks like 04 ff 08 86 ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff

Hi

Try to boot the router by skipping the config (set  the config-register to 2142 )

Thank you

Raju

I have already done that. I think the cookie is maybe wrong. I got al FFFF where there should be a good format.

Does anyone have a 2801 and is able to compare his first row with mine?

Hi,

I think, the image on the CF is corrupted.  You need to erase and format it.  Then copy an image to it from another router and than try to boot it. Do you have another router with CF card in it?

HTH

Yes i have a 1841 with CF. Don't know if they support the same format. I thought the 1841 is  erase and not format class C.

Could you in the meanwhile compare my cookie with yours if you have a 2801  ? Because i compared it with a cookie form the 1841 and the FF FF in the first line is strange. It should give a valid mac address  there.

Greets

I have a 2821.  How do you compare the cookies?

In Rommon you can give the command "cookie"

for example: rommon1 >cookie

then you get a whole lot of  digits.. could you send me the first row of 16 pairs.

Got is working guys. Finally someone gave me his cookie
