C2950 - System LED alternate green/orange

Hi,

I just had a C2950G-24-EI drop of the network. When I visited the switch, all port LEDs were constant Amber, including the Gigabit ethernet and the System LED was alternating between amber and green.

I rebooted the switch and it came up fine, but the configuration files had been renamed as config.text.renamed, and a blank config was in config.text.

I can't find the LED status code for this in any of the Cisco documentation.

Has anyone else experienced this? Or might know what caused it?

Thanks,

Ben

Hi,

The switch LED's are described here:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps628/products_installation_guide_chapter09186a00801cd6e8.html

and troubleshooting is here:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps628/products_installation_guide_chapter09186a00801cd6d7.html

It's not obvious what caused this - maybe a corrupted config file? If you do a "show post" command you should get more info if it failed post.

Andrew.

Thanks - I've already read through these two manuals.

They state that the system light can be either off, green or amber. It does not mention what is happening when the LED alternates between green and amber.

It passed post fine.

Ill keep monitoring it and swap out if it happens again!

Hi Dave ,

The problem may be because of hrdware and try to monitor the switch for 2 to 3 weeks. If you face the same problem once again it is better to change the switch.

Agreed!

Im just the curious type. Id like to know why it went down, and more importantly why the LED pattern is not documented by Cisco.
