Hello,

Are you talking about SVI VLAN?

If Yes - SVI would be down if no port is UP/UP in this VLAN. So ping will be dropped if VLAN is down.

If NO than pkease specify the problem in more details.

but in cisco 6509 i can ping vlan id

Hi,

if you can ping the SVI, it means it is up/up.
