Hi check that the image is not corrupted using that will stop it from booting , when you get the md5 value check it against the website make sure its the same , if its off its corrupted and tyou need to out a new one in flash to boot from that's not corrupt , sometimes during transfers ios images can get corrupted

#verify /md5 flash:cat3k_caa-universalk9.SPA.03.06.02a.E.152-2a.E2.bin

..........Done!
verify /md5 (flash:cat3k_caa-universalk9.SPA.03.06.02a.E.152-2a.E2.bin) = a1a965aa7574395e6e78784f84a044d9

also post the dir flash:

if its still failing and the md5 is correct post the full boot process

Hi Mark,

Thanks for your quick reply on this, I have missed one this before i boot the switch, i did not verify /md5 flash and am not sure if this the issue or not.

I have 2 unites of this device and I managed to upgrade one successfully.

regarding the md5 value check i have managed to boot the switch using usb and run the verify /md5 and get the below results but still the same issue,

.Done!
verify /md5 (flash:cat3k_caa-universalk9.SPA.03.07.03.E.152-3.E3.bin) = 71d48b44bb5ec13d4b4d47d8c3dc9dd7

I have checked it with the other units and get the same value.

below is the dir flash and boot process

Hi,

Have you tried booting the switch from usb?  You should be able to boot from usb and reinstall the software.

Thanks

John

Yes that's worth a  shot as well boot from usb if you have direct access to stick it in

If you try boot one of the other images in flash does it work ?........just trying to rule out an issue with flash itself

if usb fails you could try this

https://edennington.wordpress.com/2013/08/08/cisco-3850-fails-to-boot/

Hi Guys,

Many thanks for all your time and help, i have solved this  issue.

the mistake I did was when i copy the file name to the BOOT variable was not as how is it in the dir = flash:caa-universalk9.SPA.03.07.03.E.152-3.E3.bin; so when i set reboot the switch cannot find the file name in the boot variable from the dir.

some how i manage to add the correct file name when i boot from usb and the switch is working fine now.

But now how do I remove the boot variable?

Thanks

ah great :)

you can see your boot with show boot

then you need to put them in order , you should at least have 2 images in boot , with your preferred 1 first , incase 1 fails gets corrupted  it will pull the other one and not leave you hard down

to remove it

no system boot flash:.......name of ios
