Hello,
I was alerted to a power supply not available on a C3850 switch. When I checked the output of the show env all command, I found this:
EGV-FDCPHY-SW01#sh env all
Switch 1 FAN 1 is OK
Switch 1 FAN 2 is OK
Switch 1 FAN 3 is OK
FAN PS-1 is OK
FAN PS-2 is OK
Switch 1: SYSTEM TEMPERATURE is OK
SW PID Serial# Status Sys Pwr PoE Pwr Watts
-- ------------------ ---------- --------------- ------- ------- -----
1A PWR-C1-1100WAC DTN1906V0B0 OK Good Good 1100
1B PWR-C1-1100WAC DTN1906V0AX No Response Good Good 1100
When I did a physical check of the switch, the power supply lights were on as normal. I decided to reseat the power supply and got these messages in the log:
Mar 16 23:35:43.735 CDT: %NGWC_PLATFORM_FEP-1-FRU_PS_ACCESS: Switch 1: power supply B is not responding
...
Mar 17 08:33:56.414 CDT: %NGWC_PLATFORM_FEP-1-FRU_PS_ACCESS: Switch 1: power supply B is not responding
Mar 17 08:38:27.379 CDT: %NGWC_PLATFORM_FEP-1-FRU_PS_SIGNAL_FAULTY: Switch 1: signal on power supply B is faulty <<<<<<unplugged power cord
Mar 17 08:38:39.471 CDT: %NGWC_PLATFORM_FEP-6-FRU_PS_OIR: Switch 1: FRU power supply B removed
Mar 17 08:38:46.520 CDT: %NGWC_PLATFORM_FEP-6-FRU_PS_OIR: Switch 1: FRU power supply B inserted
Mar 17 08:38:46.520 CDT: %NGWC_PLATFORM_FEP-1-FRU_PS_ACCESS: Switch 1: power supply B is not responding <<<<<<<Finished reseating power supply
Mar 17 08:38:52.668 CDT: %NGWC_PLATFORM_FEP-1-FRU_PS_SUSTAINED_OVERLOAD_RECOVERY: Switch 1: power supply B recovered from sustained overload condition. <<<<<<<<woah, after plugging power back in.
I did a show tech and checked the log and there isn't an indication that power supply B became overloaded in the first place. Is this nothing worry about, or does it point to an issue with the switch, power supply, or my datacenter power?
Thank you.

Hi,
This may not necessary be a hardware issue but rather a bug in the IOS. I have seen cases with 3850s where the second power supply is working fine but when you issue command "sh env powe" it shows that the second power supply is not responding. Since the entire switch can be powered by one PSU and the second one is for redundancy, I would just monitor it and see if appears again. If it does, I recommend contacting TAC.

Thanks. My coworker was thinking it could be code. I'm actually upgrading IOS in the next few days for another bug. Will keep an eye on it.
Thanks again!
