Level 1

Having issues with a c3850 switch upgrade.

It failed the first time so I formatted all flash: (1,2,3,4,5,6,7)

Then tried the below, and I keep ending up with: WARNING: Abandoned lock file found - removing
Any ideas?

I tried some of the methods found in that article (copy bin to each, and then upgrade each individually, but it failed)  See below

 - Save the running-configuration to an 'external repository' (with tftp or scp for instance) , factory reset the device , install the intended software version, copy the backup of the running-configuration to the device again, and last but not least save the latter to the startup-configuration (too).

Thank you, we were hoping to not have to go onsite (it's 5 states away, and no remote console).  That will be the last solution, if nothing else works

Post the complete output to the command "sh version".

I have a good idea what this is and I may have a "NSFW" solution.

Configuration register is 0x102

Thanks for the output.

We will need to "cheat the system" by doing this:

1.  Copy the BIN file to each switch member.

2.  Configure the boot variable string to point to the BIN file (Bundle Mode).

3.  Reboot the Stack.

4.  Once the stack reboots up, convert to Install Mode.

5.  Reboot again.

Interesting, do it the ol'fashion way, back to basic bundle mode.  Will give it a try, but my next op' is not until jan 8th.

So, I had a little bit different scenario, ran into a space issue due to files in the flash:/core directory.  The install died because of too many core files, but had removed the original pkg files because of smart flash deletion.  I ran

request platform software package install switch all new

Things seemed to go fine until it hit the lock file.  I took a look at all of the files in flash on the other switches(not the active one) and the upgrade seemed to have worked fine on those, only failing on the Active switch.  I compared those files to active switch, and the only file that was different was the packages.conf file.  I copied that file from flash-3: to flash: and overwrote packages.conf in flash:.  I also copied the bin file back to flash: just in case my theory didn't work.  I rebooted the stack, the switches upgraded the microcode and worked great.  Hope that this works for someone else.
