C6880 - configuration fundamentals

Hi guys,

I've new box C6880-X-LE with IOS Version 15.1(2)SY5 with no configuration. I've only assigned IP address to VLAN1 and configured ip default-gateway. I can ping other clients in same subnet but I cant ping other clients in other subnets. I tried to configured command ip routing protocol purge interface with no success. In C4500 was neccessary to configured command ip routing and it worked. 

Can you help me?

Hi,

If you are using the 6800 as a layer-2 device only, than you don't the ip routing command.  All you need is the "ip default-gateway" command, which you already have. If you plan on using it as layer-3 than ip routing is helpful with multiple SVIs for all your subnets.  BTW, the 6800 should have ip routing enabled by default.

Can I disable IP ROUTING in 6880??? Thats way I'm not able to ping other subnets even if I've put ip default-gateway command.
