Can 876 ISR act as a router-on-a-stick?

It doesn't seem like I can set up trunking (dot1q) on this device. Isn't it supported on this device? Can I still set up VLANs with the router-on-a-stick concept working internal in the device, i.e no external interfaces/subinterfaces being configured? If so, can I then connect VLANs to other switches?

I have:

     876 ISR

     Catalyst 2960

     SLM2008

I know the small biz switch supports VLANs and I think trunking as well--obviously the 2960 supports it. Is there a way with these devices to configure one VLAN for servers/net devices and another for regular end-user computers so that they still talk to one another, or do I need a different router in the mix?

Sorry I'm just a bit of a neophyte and getting use to some of this equipment. Just a CCENT so far, working on CCNA.

Thanks...

Hi,

the ethernet ports are Layer 2 ports  so  you can't  configure subinterfaces or assign them an IP address.

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/routers/ps380/ps6200/product_data_sheet0900aecd8028a976.html

You'll see in the link that you can have 2 vlans with one dedicated for dmz with Base Image and up to 4 vlans

with Advanced IP Services IOS.

look here for more infos:http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/routers/access/800/850/software/configuration/guide/dhcpvlan.html

Hello Mr. Stanford,

Thank  you for posting, unfortunately the Cisco Support community is only  dedicate to Small business products and does not support CLI  configuration.

And the 876ISR is not considered as an Small business device.

In order to get an accurate and quick answer I recommend you to contact our Cisco support center.

Thank you.

I'm not asking for CLI support. I'm only asking for generalized information on the products. Where do I go for that information? Pre-sales suppport?

I'm not sure why Cisco seems to make it so hard to provide a community that can help on another out. This is not a mission critical down time issue. It's actually an architectural issue--planning stages.

It's a simple question, really. Can you point me in the right direction?
