Hi community,
I wonder if Cisco 1000BASE-T SFP can work with CAT-6 cable. I believe it can. But in the Cisco datasheet, it only mentions that “The 1000BASE-T SFP operates on standard Category 5 unshielded twisted pair copper cabling of up to 100m (328 ft) link length”. Can you share your experience about it?

Yes a 1000BASE-T SFP will work just fine with a CAT-6 cable. I have actually never seen something that only supports Cat-5 and not Cat-6. Cat-6 is rated to work at higher frequencies than Cat-5/5e, nothing that would cause compatibility issues.

Hi,
Do you have it in the real network? I have to ask this question because I need to confirm for the customer, then they will order for CAT-6 cable.

Hi
It will work. You can confirm that to your customer.
Here is the documenation if you woulld like to refer
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps700/products_tech_note09186a00800a7af7.shtml
"10/100/1000 Ethernet ports must use four twisted-pair Category 5, 5e or 6 cables"
Thank you
