Can't input ip secondary in switch [CLOSED]

after2nite
Level 1
Level 1

Hello everyone..

I want to add more 1 segment in 1 VLAN because it is to differentiate users on different floors.

For example :

for VLAN 100, there are 2 segments IP or 2 IP address for gateway , they are..

192.168.101.1

192.168.102.1 (as secondary IP or extend IP or multiply IP)

but when i type :

ip address 192.168.102.1 255.255.255.0 secondary

description appear : "Invalid input detected at '^' marker" (in switch layer 2 and MLS switch layer 3).

so.. how i make multiply or 2 segments in 1 VLAN ?

Please help me

Thank you very much..

It would help to know what switch and version you are using. And why do you try it on the Layer2 switch?

Anyhow, the better way is to use a new VLAN and assign the switchports for different floors to these different VLANs.

For switch layer 3 :

C3650-24PS ver 16.3.2

For switch layer 2 :

C2960-24TT-L ver 15.0(2)SE4

Ok thank you very much for your reply and suggestion

3650 should work as expected : (worth provide full show version - show ip route)

C2960-24TT-L ver 15.0(2)SE4  - if this is swich is layer2 ? what is the usecase here for secondary IP ?

Dear,

Thank you very much for your reply & information.

I think you need to change SW to l3SW before add secondary IP to SVI.
