Can't logon to 1801 Router

We have an 1801W V06.  It is straight out of the box, and I cannot log on to configure it.  I have downloaded 'Cisco Configuration Professional', and when I select 'Set Up New Device', it all works up until the point where it tries to log on to the router, and I get a log on failed error.  I then tried to log on using HyperTerminal.  I tried the defaults of ccpuser, ccppasswd and cisco, cisco, but I kept getting an Invalid Logon error.  So I tried to go through the recover password procedure.  I got as far as typing 'confreg 0x2142', followed by 'reset', but the router never gave me the 'Router>' prompt after it has gone through it's boot up (with me pressing Ctrl-C at the appropriate time).

Do you think we have a faulty router?  If so, I need to get it replaced as soon as possible (next week at the latest).

Please help.

Ian

Ian,

Usually there is no username and password on the console of the new devices.  When the devices boot you just press enter and then enable. It may not be so in this case.

Since you have already changed the confreg to 0x2142, try turning off the router completely and then back on and see if it boot all the way.
