Problem connecting some computers to switch

I am not a Cisco Professional but I do know my way around networking, and am having the following problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

We have a Cisco Catalyst 520 managed switch in the main office. We  have two small 8 port cisco switches at another location that connect through a cable to a port on the switch,  The power went out at the location and now only one 5 out of 11 stations will connect to the Catalyst 520 switch in the main office (yet all the stations at the location can see each other). It does not matter what ports I connect the computers to, I still have the same problem. I connected  the cable coming from the Location to our old switch in the main office and  connected that switch to the Cisco Catalyst switch and it all worked ???

We also have an 8 port switch in the office that connects  to a printer and a couple demo units that also connect to a port on the Cisco Catalyst Switch, which the port is set to "switch" when the power goes out, I have to  reconfigure the port to "other" in order to connect to the printer, it will then  work fine until the power goes out again which I have to reset the port back to  "switch".

I have attached a simple yet crude drawing of the layout.

While checking the manual for the 520 I found that you can use prefdefined "profiles" to determine port operation.

Several of these have some kind of port security enabled, probably at five hosts.

According to this, the uplink ports shoukd be set to "other", as this profile disables the port security.

RTFM!
