cannot communicate through firewall

Lab setup:

ISP -> unmanaged switch -> ASA 5510 (8.4) -> Cisco 2851 Router

From the ASA I can ping 4.2.2.2 and get replies. Cool.

I can ping the Cisco 2851 and get replies, cool.

From the Cisco 2851 I can ping the firewall and get replies. Cool.

From the Cisco 2851 I DO NOT get replies when I ping 4.2.2.2

To recap, I need to be able to ping from R1 to internet. This will go through FW.

This leads me to believe that the firewall is blocking.

I have created a network object

I have created a ACL

I have applied the ACL.

What am I missing?

I dont have much experience in ASA. But as understood from config, you have to configure policy to allow inside ip to public ip.. also clearely define the NAT (static or dynamic) with nat ip not same as router ip.
It is always a best practice to use fised ip address for Firewall interfaces, not DHCP.

for NAT, you can use the following

nat (INSIDE,OUTSIDE) dynamic interface ( this will use the mapped interface.)

~Unni

My isp doesn’t provide fixed ip…

for NAT, you can use the following

nat (INSIDE,OUTSIDE) dynamic interface ( this will use the mapped interface.)

this will work for dhcp also

and for initial testing put ACL for permit ip any any..
